There’s another one, a flash of white light, like a sun had
burst from within the city’s, engulfing all the sky scrapers and building and
the sound, and there was no sound. I stood on top of a large hill and watched
the light begin to grow larger below. All of the people’s faces in terror and
there mouth a gap with what looked to be a scream but I can't hear a thing.
Even there shadows burst into flames and as the white light got closer I could
feel something sliding around my arm. I turned to see a serpent smiling at me
with a kind of sick pleasure as if it had been waiting for ages for such an
event in time. Then the light went out.
I awoke to ash covering my face, watching people going back
and forth, oblivious to the young man in the sleeping bag. They carry on their
day to day tasks of scavenging and searching for anything and everything they
could possibly need. Personally, I think there searching for a sense of purpose
in all of this chaos; something to hold onto, a sort of meaning for this
disaster. There was no need for this to happen, millions of people gone in a
flash. I curse the man who played god and pushed the button. There must have
been another way, there is always another way. I sit up and unzip my sleeping
bag; the air attacks my legs and arms, we have yet to fix the holes in the roof
and walls but this factory is still our home, for the time being. For now the
only purpose I have is to survive and on that note I hope they have something
good for breakfast at the kitchen.
They attacked us this morning; we were out number and out
gunned. I tried to fight them off but in the end we had to retreat. My hands
are stained burgundy and the color seems to flake off with every stroke of my
pen. I never liked backing down and running but considering the circumstances I
probably wouldn't be writing this if I hadn't. There are few people who made it
out alive, and even fewer not wounded by the attack. Right now we are stranded
in this god forsaken waste land. Just have to stay warm and get some sleep, we
have a long day ahead of us
